Forget auto lease of the car you wish to lease for a moment and find out the invoice price, rebate programs and other dealer or manufacturers incentives and dont talk trade-in or finance or auto lease at this point in time. Just look and take notes.

You will consider an auto that will hold it's value over and well beyond the term of the auto lease agreement and remember the higher the residual value, the lower the monthly payments. The term of your lease contract should not exceed the term of the manufacturers warranty. Only when you found the right car and the right dealership will you consider the following and again negotiate.

Find out if your trade-in will be considered as the initial deposit on your auto lease and consider how it affects the basic invoice price, rebate programs and incentives. You might be wise of disposing of your trade-in on your own. Know cost and options of early termination of the lease and this way, if something does happen, there are no surprises. Look at costs of insuring the vehicle and lease-end charges like costs of going over the allowed mileage plus costs of disposition and/or purchase option fees.

Negotiation happens prior to signing the lease agreement, not at the end of the term. Read the fine print. All of it and do not be pressured into signing an auto lease.

Shop and shop around and you will be amazed at the money you'll save. Treat all financial matters including an auto lease as cases where shop till you drop comes into play. Always verify figures including additions and subtractions to ensure you are not paying for mistakes and/or extra hidden costs.
