Understanding a government student loan

A government student loan is meant to free students financially while they concentrate on their education. A government student loan is provided by local financial services found in your educational institution.

To successfully apply for a government student loan, it is useful to understand the terms you will be dealing with. Student loan interest rates vary, yet an average rate of 10% is carried by most students. Students need base is demonstrated by EFC calculator, and indicated who is eligible for certain loans. A grace period is the time allowed before a student must repay their loans, and a loan limit is the maximum that can be borrowed per academic year.

To receive a government student loan, you must first fill out a loan application. To be eligible you must meet the following requirements: You must be a citizen of the country in which you’re applying; be enrolled 60% of a full-time program, or 40% for a person with disabilities; demonstrate financial need; pass a credit check; maintain satisfactory scholastic standard; and not have previous defaults on loans.

After you have been approved of your government student loan, you will receive your Certificate of Eligibility in the mail. This will indicate the amount of assistance you will receive, and how to contact your local financial services for the next steps.
